Staff Picks: Books with an Intriguing Mystery

Who doesn’t love a good mystery? From intricately-planned plots to its many twists and turns, a good mystery is hard to put down.  It’s loads of fun too, especially when the author peppers the story with clues, and you unleash your “inner detective” to get to the bottom of it all. Sometimes, the author is so good that the mind-blowing plot twist is delivered like a punch in the gut.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

A story about a living boy raised in a graveyard full of ghosts and ghouls? Hell, yeah, sign me up! Neil Gaiman delivers another unforgettable story, one that gives you equal parts paranormal and horror and heart-warming and hopeful. Ultimately, in the end, more than the mystery of the main character, Bod’s existence, and why people were after him, it’s the inevitable goodbye that had me choking back tears. – Ali, Creatives

The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa

There is something haunting about forgetting, the feeling that leaves a complicated knot in your stomach. A contrast to chilling creatures and vivid terrors, Yōko Ogawa's The Memory Police offers a quietly unsettling experience. It unfolds like a calm lingering dream, inviting readers to breeze through the depths of memory's fragility. This is for those searching for an eerily comfort read that offers a new perspective on fear! – Elenea, Partnerships

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Even though I don't typically go for mysteries, this book’s blurb caught my eye. Avery lives an ordinary life, until one day, a billionaire leaves his entire fortune to her. The catch? She doesn’t know Mr. Hawthorne or any of his grandsons.  Unexpectedly, I liked all of the characters, even the not-so-nice-ones on the surface. I also found the Hawthorne residence, with its dark passageways and eerie mysteries, intriguing. And though there were more questions left unanswered by the book’s ending, I can’t wait to unpack all the Easter eggs in this spellbinding mystery series – Cath, Marketing

Verity by Colleen Hoover

Verity is a gripping and twisted psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I would find myself forgetting to breathe while reading, and would need to pause just to catch my breath. I wouldn’t want to spoil the book, but I will say that it has made me question everything I read before the mind-blowing ending.– Myks, E-Commerce
